A specialty chemicals company making additives needed commercially available compounds in three chemical types, each with precise structural criteria. Prescouter screened hundreds of structures and found over 100 commercial products, six of which the client chose for bench tests.
The client is a specialty chemicals company focused on formulating and manufacturing additives for various applications. It wanted commercial molecules in three chemical types to use directly or as raw materials in its processes.
Each chemical class and subclass had its own structural specifications, such as carbon chain length, linear or branched structure and substituent functionality, and every compound also had to be commercially available.
Specific carbon ranges.
Defined for each subclass.
Molecules the client can buy.
A structure-based database search found 169 in-scope compounds, narrowed with the client to 23, then 7.
When few exact matches existed, we broadened the criteria and studied why ideal molecules are scarce.
For the third type, market reports and literature reviews identified compounds and their suppliers.
Prescouter identified over 100 commercial products with potential for significant volume and regional availability. The client highlighted six of them as particularly interesting and selected them for bench tests and internal evaluations. Research into production processes also explained why so few ideal molecules are commercially available.

The ideal molecule on paper is not always the one you can buy. Knowing why helps teams decide when to adapt the spec and when to keep searching.
