A non-profit electricity research institute needed to know how data center growth will affect the US grid. We mapped more than 2,000 sites, tracked technology trends and modeled load growth to 2050 under 4 scenarios.
The client is a non-profit research institute working on how electricity is generated, delivered and used. It wanted data and expert insight to help build a roadmap for grid resilience.
Prescouter was asked to assess how data centers will affect the US electric grid, from current density and siting criteria to growth trends and electricity demand from AI and other technologies through 2050.
States with high data center density.
Demand driven by AI and big data.
Where utilities may be strained.
We mapped hyperscale and co-location sites so the client could compare them by state.
We projected total load increase from 2023 to 2050 for the US and for high-density states.
Academic papers, white papers, databases and expert interviews informed each brief.
Prescouter completed 5 intelligence briefs, identified more than 2,000 data center sites and built a model of load growth from 2023 to 2050 under 4 scenarios. The client can now compare local and state impacts and pinpoint where generation and distribution may face critical change.
Hyperscale and co-location centers.
Projecting load to 2050.
Where grid changes may be critical.
Digital demand is becoming a grid planning issue. Knowing where load will land helps utilities invest before the strain arrives.
Map the load, model the growth and plan for the pressure points. Wherever you’re starting from, we’ll help you get there.
