About the Client:
The client is a leading global multinational company with an extensive portfolio of products and services targeted for the Oil and Gas industry.
The Challenge:
The client was investigating future digital infrastructure for Upstream O&G operations, and asked PreScouter to help them understand (with a focus on both digital twin and cloud/edge computing in service environments):
- What are the key technologies enabling new services and designs in upstream O&G applications?
- Who are the key players developing solutions in this field?
- What are the advantages/disadvantages and added value of these players?
Methodology:
Over the course of 4 check-in meetings delivered in 2 months, PreScouter:
- Assessed the overall market and key trends.
- Identified key investment targets that had superior technology and value proposition compared to others in the market.
- Identified subject-matter experts and researchers that were experts in these areas and brought them on to help assess different company approaches.
- Assessed the IP landscape for the sector to highlight high-value areas currently being developed.
Results:
In addition to answering key technical and strategic questions for the Client, PreScouter identified and examined 18 companies that matched client needs with a focus on digital twin capabilities. Of these, 9 were prioritized and further analyzed to highlight differentiators and highlight potential partners to the client.
At the same time, PreScouter uncovered more than 20 leading players developing solutions with cloud and edge computing capabilities. These providers were segmented by offering type and application (e.g. predictive maintenance, edge computing, IoT, etc…), and analyzed based on their technology differentiators and history of success in the field.
The results of the research were used by the PreScouter team to create a diagram/view of the various components of a “state of the art” system- including specific points of interest about providers in the space and technology capabilities or shortcomings (seen below). PreScouter also forecasted future/expected developments and use cases for these different service providers.
