A global leader in HVAC systems needed to understand how refrigeration pressure vessels are regulated across U.S. states. Building on an earlier national study, Prescouter examined eight outlier states in depth over four Intelligence Briefs and summarized the other 42.
The client is a globally recognized leader in heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and solutions. It wanted a clear picture of how U.S. states regulate refrigeration pressure vessels to inform strategic planning.
An earlier Prescouter study in 2024 found that most states either adopt a version of the national mechanical code or align directly with pressure vessel certification standards. Eight states were exceptions, developing their own frameworks for refrigeration equipment and pressure vessels.

A high-level overview captured the editions of key documents governing this equipment.
Expert interviews and a leading subject matter expert closed gaps and enriched the findings.
Prescouter detailed how eight states regulate refrigeration equipment, boilers and pressure vessels, and whether each references modern or historic editions of national codes and standards. A high-level overview of the remaining 42 states covered the editions of key regulatory documents, giving the client the inputs to build a U.S. regulatory landscape for strategic planning.
