About the client:

The client, a leading optical lens manufacturer, was seeking to strengthen its supply chain for critical polymers, molecules, and solvents that were being sourced from a single supplier.

Challenge:

To meet the client’s needs in this Research Support Service Project, PreScouter needed to identify suppliers of chemicals and solvents in Europe, America, and Asia.

Approach:

To address the challenge, PreScouter obtained the existing volumes along with the material safety and technical data sheets for each of the critical materials from the client and classified them (i.e., specialty chemicals, pure chemicals) with individual CAS numbers for scouting purposes.

PreScouter then used various online databases and trade fairs to identify alternative chemicals. The missing information on cost and purity was obtained further through outreach.

Outcome:

The PreScouter team successfully identified 47 alternative polymers, molecules, and solvents, along with their key suppliers. The identified alternatives were further screened directly based on client criteria such as available volumes, REACH registration, purity, cost, etc.

Moreover, PreScouter identified and located available stocks for urgent chemicals to alleviate a near-term supply chain crunch at alternative locations and competitive prices.
